Wilmington, NC - The UNCW women’s soccer team was honored at halftime of the men’s basketball game versus Eastern Kentucky Monday night in Raiford G. Trask Coliseum. They were recognized for their accomplishment of competing in the NCAA tournament this past weekend.UNCW was assigned to play the South Carolina Gamecocks in the 1st round of the NCAA tournament after losing 1-0 to William & Mary in the CAA Tournament semifinals Friday, November 6th. The team was excited about this announcement and it has given them new life on a season they thought was over.
The Seahawk won their first ever NCAA Tournament game in the program’s history. They defeated South Carolina 2-0 behind goals by Katrina Guillou and Lauren Nalevaiko. Head Coach Paul Cairney, reported by Eric Rhew, said on uncwsports.com “It is huge” on their impressive win. The win improved their 2015 season record to 15-6-1. The UNCW Women’s Soccer team will travel to Charlottesville, Virginia to play the Virginia Cavaliers at Klöckner Stadium Friday, November 20th in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
